Women's History

The gender balance between men and women in David Livingstone’s story is unequal. Subsequently the representation of women in our collection is minimal. However, the objects we do hold tell the stories of bold, brave and skilled women who impacted and influenced David’s life.

By showcasing the roles they played, we hope to encourage more research on their lives and other women living and working in the regions where David travelled.
